A cat person or a dog person

The Star usually runs a section on pets in the Saturday issue. These are some things I picked up a couple of weeks back.

Firstly, your choice of pets does reflect on your personality. A dog owner is very much different socially compared to a cat owner. I think it's pretty true to some extent. I'm a cat lover so should I say more? Apparently, society is getting more introverted (blame it on technology and lifestyle) and thus cats should be becoming more popular. Good news for the felines but not so good news for the canines :P

And sometimes we do wonder if our pets are capable of any emotional feelings at all, and it says here though they are capable of feelings, they are mostly motivated by their need for food, shelter and even social hierarchy. Clinically, they are incapable of emotion due to the lack of a certain brain function or brain part that facilitates this. So, the next time you feel fuzzy all inside when when your tabby cuddles up to you, don't expect it to feel the same. It just feels secure :P. But before you scorn your pet for being exploitative or 'fake', think of it this way. You and your pet exist in a symbiotic relationship; while you provide it with shelter, food and care, it will then acknowledge you as it's provider and security in it's own way which will in-turn fulfill your emotional and companionship needs.

Last but not least, different pet owners have different relationship expectations towards their furry friend. The part about Noah is pretty funny - and true. I'm sure you know of some people who just can't bear to leave that stray kitten or puppy out on the streets. Which one are you?
